The Destiny Trading Cards are a set of seventeen collectible cards produced by Bungie in collaboration with Idea Planet in 2013. The cards were given away at several gaming events during which Destiny was shown off prior to its release, and each represent classes, destinations, enemy factions, and weapons found in the game at launch. The cards also contained universal codes which could be redeemed to earn Grimoire Card entries on Bungie.net.
The cards are printed on thick card stock and cut to 3.5" x 2.5" (8.9cm x 6.35cm). They are numbered 1–17, and were released sequentially across the five events they were available at. Each set exclusive to a given event also contained a golden card, which featured metallic gold on the border, symbols, and text present on the front side of each card. The twelve remaining standard cards instead feature a clear gloss layer pressed over the titles and symbols on the front of the cards.
The first five cards in the series debuted at Gamescom 2013, held in Cologne, Germany from August 21st through August 25th.[1] As such, the cards given out at the event were printed in German—those being the Guardian: Warlock, Guardian: Hunter, Guardian: Titan, Fallen: Rixis, Archon Slayer, and Destination: Old Russia cards. However, English copies were also made, as were given to guests personally invited to Germany by Activision to attend a session with Bungie community manager David Dague prior to the Gamescom showcase.[2] These versions are rare, as copies were apparently given only to specific individuals both at the pre-Gamescom meetup and later on as part of a set of Activision sponsored gift packages. Although creators like MoreConsole also received an additional set to give away through his Youtube channel.[3] As for the German language cards, obtaining them required attendees to complete certain tasks on the Gamescom show floor.[1] For instance, Fallen: Rixis, Archon Slayer cards were only available to attendees who preordered Destiny through the GameStop booth at the event.[4]
The next three cards would be given out in the Netherlands during FirstLook 2013, held in early October. These included the Enemy: Hive, Destination: Moon, and Exotic Rocket Launcher: Gjallarhorn cards, which were all printed in English.[5]
Milan Games Week was held from October 25th to October 27th in 2013,[6] and another three cards debuted during the event. Printed in Italian, the Destination: The Tower, Hand Cannon: Duke Mk.44, and Hive: Ogre cards comprise the third set of cards given out.[7]
The next set of three were available from October 30th to November 3rd at Paris Games Week 2013.[8] Included as part of this set were the Destination: Valley of Kings, Mars, Enemy: The Fallen, and Exotic Pulse Rifle: Red Death cards, all printed in French.[9]
The final three cards were found at Madrid Games Week, which was held in 2013 from November 7th to November 10th.[10] These cards were printed in Spanish, and consisted of the Enemy: The Cabal, Destination: Shattered Coast, Venus, and Vex: Minotaur cards.[11]
Five complete sets were sent to prominent EU community members in late November 2013 as part of a "Community Gift Pack," the foremost inclusion of which being a PS4 console. These packs included the English versions of the Gamescom set of cards, and were given to the following community members: MoreConsole (Youtube),[12] My name is Byf (Youtube), FraserBaws (Desti-Nation),[13] Shade09 (ThatDestinyBlog), and Ollie Powell (IGN).[14]
